Donor Advised Fund
A donor advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account, sponsored by a public charity, like CCF. It's a popular account that is easy to set up and operate. When you create a DAF, you give an initial gift which is tax deductible. You choose what kind of investment strategy you want to grow this fund and CCF invests your gift. From your DAF, you can recommend grants at any time.
DAFs offer great flexibility. You can replenish your fund with tax-deductible gifts whenever you want. You are in control which means you can be strategic in your giving. We think of DAFs as charitable checking accounts.
Donors often use DAFs as a strategy for tax-efficient giving. One strategy is called bunching. With recent tax laws, the federal standard deduction doubled. For some taxpayers, this eliminates the need to itemize deductions. But it also allows the opportunity to bunch. You bunch as many tax-deductible expenses as possible in a single tax year, and take the itemized deduction. In alternate years, you take the standard deduction. You can continue to support your charities on a regular basis through your DAF even though you are contributing to the fund at different times.
If you already have a DAF at another institution, you can transfer your funds to CCF today to align your giving more closely with your faith.
